Short answer

We build this site to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA, the web's main accessibility standard. We haven't had an outside audit yet. If something doesn't work for you, email us with the page and the problem.

What we check

Checks we run on every page

We test

  • Text color against its background. Our body text colors clear a contrast ratio of 4.5 to 1.
  • Each page has one main heading, and headings don't skip levels.
  • Images have text descriptions, and decorative shapes are hidden from screen readers.
  • Links, buttons and form fields have names a screen reader can announce.
  • Pages at phone width, so nothing runs off the side of the screen.

Built in

  • Videos don't load or play until you press play.
  • Nothing moves or plays sound on its own.
  • Forms show errors in words, not only in color.
  • The page language is set, so screen readers use English pronunciation.

Known gaps

What isn't done yet

  • No outside accessibility audit yet.
  • We haven't yet tested every page with a screen reader or keyboard alone.
  • Many images are placeholders until real photos are added. Each placeholder has a text label.
  • PDFs and pages on government sites we link to follow those sites' own standards.
